A run-off election will be held Nov. 8 for the Yurok Tribal positions of chairperson and vice chairperson following the certification of the Oct. 11 election.
The Yurok Election Board announced this week that incumbent Howard McConnell and challenger Maria Tripp will face off in November for the position of chairperson. McConnell received 37.73 percent or 291 votes; Tripp received 30.10 percent or 276 votes.
The vice chairperson runoff will be between incumbent Thomas O'Rourke Sr. with 35.92 percent or 329 votes and challenger Bonnie (Hoddy-Bacon) Green with 364 votes or 39.74 percent.
Larry Hendrix, the Orick District incumbent, will continue in his seat after receiving one more vote than his challenger Wendy Kull. Hendrix received 11 votes, Kull 10. Yurok Election Board Representative Earl Jackson said that a tally of 50 percent of the vote plus one was necessary to determine a victor in that race. The results were not contested and no recount request was submitted, he said. The District runs from the Klamath River in the north to the Little River in the south and slightly inland.
Hendrix's installation ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 during the next regularly scheduled Tribal Council meeting in Klamath.
