The Wiyot Tribe is holding a summit for California tribes to share information and strategies for protecting rivers and their valuable resources in December.

The California Tribal River Summit will highlight the collaborative approach tribes have taken on the Klamath River, and examine other methods tribes are using to deal with problems related to dams, water diversions and fisheries.

The summit will also address fresh water as a resource threatened by increasing population and climate change. Panelists will discuss the state's water plan to manage and allocate water through 2030, and the importance of tribal input into that process.

”The stewardship of our rivers is equivalent to the survival of our people,” says a brochure for the summit.

The deadline to register is Dec. 8. The summit will be held Dec. 14 and 15 at the Table Bluff Reservation in Loleta. Participation is free. Lunches and a Thursday night dinner will be provided. E-mail Andrea Davis at Andrea@wiyot.us to register. A full program can be found at http://www.wiyot.com/ .
