The Yurok Election Board has announced that two run-off elections will be held to decide their Oct. 13 primary election.

 

The board also announced that there were two challenges to the Pecwan and South district positions. Hearings were held and determined that there was not enough evidence to overturn the election results.

 

The results announced were:

 

East District

 

Sasha Pearl LeMieux, 65 votes or 34.21 percent of the votes; Lyle L. McKinnon Sr. (incumbent) 89 votes, 46.84 percent; Wally E. Obie, 36 votes, 18.95 percent. A runoff between McKinnon and LeMieux will be held Nov. 17.

 

Pecwan District

 

J. Darlene Magee, 14 votes, 41.18 percent; Richard Dickey Myers (incumbent) 20 votes, 58.82 percent.

 

South District

 

Bonnie (Hoddy) Bacon Green, 87 votes, 35.08 percent; Gary Lee Markussen Sr., 36 votes, 14.52 percent; Allen McCloskey Jr., 69 votes, 27.82 percent; Dale Ann Frye Sherman (incumbent), 56 votes, 22.58 percent. A runoff will be held between Green and McCloskey on Nov. 17.

 

The installation ceremony for Myers will be held at the next regularly scheduled council meeting at 11 a.m. today in Weitchpec.
