The Trinity Journal
August 19, 2009
The executive director of the Trinity River Restoration
Program announces that there will be a release of a peak flow of 2,650 cubic
feet per second on the Trinity River below Lewiston Dam beginning on Sunday,
Aug. 23, as requested by the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
The purpose of the release is to supply sufficient water
to assist the Hoopa Valley Tribe with the ceremonial Boat Dance that occurs
every other year.
The higher release will begin at 8 a m. Aug. 23, raising
flows gradually from the summer base flow of 450 cfs to a peak of 2,650 cfs
by midnight. Beginning Aug. 25, the flows will be gradually reduced back to
450 cfs by 8 p.m. on Aug. 27.
The release schedule is based on ramping rates that
protect the public and in-river fish and wildlife populations.
