Triplicate Staff

The Yurok Tribe will hold elections Wednesday to determine who will fill three seats on the tribal council.

Of the three races, two are contested in the East and South Districts. In the race for the Pecwan District, incumbent Richard Myers is the sole candidate.

In the East District, Susan Masten and Howard (Louie) McConnell will challenge Lyle L. McKinnon Sr. for his seat. Both Masten and McConnell are former tribal council members.

Four people will vie for the open seat in the South District. Stephanie McQuillen, Christopher H. Peters, Dale Ann Frye Sherman and Charles (Mike) Sorrell are the candidates in a race without an incumbent.

Polls are open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The East District polling place is in the Hoopa Valley High School , the South District is at the Yurok Tribal Offices in Eureka and the Pecwan District polls are located the Wauteck Fire Station.

Only Yurok Tribal members can vote in the elections. If anyone wants more information regarding the election they can call the Yurok Election Department at (707) 482-1350 or visit the tribe's Web site at www.yuroktribe.com.
